"A wiki is a website that allows the creation and editing of any number of interlinked web pages via a web browser using a simplified markup language or a WYSIWYG text editor." Wikipedia
The primary aim of the TELE9752 wiki is to record the concepts that are covered in TELE9752, and in so doing provide a skeleton off which extra information can be added. Examples of such extra information are:
- links to further information about the concepts, e.g. examples and more detailed information
- links to related concepts that are students feel are particularly interesting or challenging
- questions from students and their corresponding answers
The concepts are already recorded, to some extent, in the slides used for lectures. However, they are typically in point form and don't capture the verbal discussion from lectures which elaborates on the points and links the points together. The wiki can act as a written equivalent of that verbal discussion.
While the format of the TELE9752 wiki is similar to that of other wikis (e.g. Wikipedia), the content is different both in terms of the subject material (focus on Network Operations and Control) and the type of linking between pages which is intended to facilitate learning. One intention behind assigning particular concepts/slides to individual students to create, is to force students to be continually vigilant for links between concepts that they "own" and other concepts covered in the course (since such links should be included in the page about "their" concept) and so improve learning by focusing on the associations between concepts.
